Contextualising Site and Purpose through Biomimicry and Biophilia
Chuangyuan Tower
Nanjing Software Park

The development, standing out with its unique nautilus shell-inspired form, combines office and hotel respectively in a 24-metre spiral podium and a 50-metre tower. The design approach sought to create a landmark that would blur the boundaries between landscape and building, nature and man through architectural form and spatial programming. This is explicitly articulated in the extensive Green Deck which gradually spirals from the ground level to rest on top of the circular podium.

By thus configuring the space and its flow, the green roof design achieves two things: it transforms Chuangyuan Tower into an accessible and pedestrian-friendly development, and connects it to the existing greens, rendering it a part of the community park that overlooks the nearby mountainous Laoshan scenery.

These public green areas flow around and through the complex, complementing, enhancing and merging with the building; effectively creating the perfect harmony between people, architecture and nature. With its sleek, modern design, attention to detail and focus on user experience, the project establishes itself as an elegant, sculptural and iconic building at the heart of Nanjing Software Park.

Ambitiously – and successfully, Chuangyuan Tower delivered a comfortable, context-sensitive and engaging urban environment through the artful yet meaningful application of biomimicry and biophilic design.
