Ms Chan Hui Min, a director at DP Architects, was invited as a panellist and speaker for the ULI Asia Pacific Summit 2019 where she shared insights on placemaking. The panel session “Placemaking and Integrated Developments” focused on how transformative placemaking on integrated developments can impact the engagement of the community and generate economic and social benefits, ultimately creating vibrant places for people to live, work and play. As part of the panel, a series of case studies of best practice from an investor, a developer, and a manager were also showcased.
Speaking from the perspective of a designer, Hui Min shared case studies of two projects by DP Architects – Emaar Square and the upcoming Tersane master plan in Istanbul. During her presentation, Hui Min elaborated on Emaar Square’s unique design that has made it more porous and integrated with the surrounding neighbourhood, thus creating more opportunities for place-making. For instance, by placing most of the development underground, it opens up the park above for a more harmonious integration with its surroundings. Similarly for Tersane, she spoke on how Tersane not only preserves its historical context but also celebrates its past with new, rich and layered experiences.
After the presentation, Hui Min joined a Q&A and open discussion session with fellow panellists; Mr Collin Franzen from AECOM, Mr Collin Lau from BEI Group, Ms Theresa Leung from Swire Properties and Mr Tony Wong from KICERS | Bridge 8 project.
