DP Architects (DPA) and its interior design specialist arm, DP Design participated in the 2018 New York Design Awards. DPA submitted its latest residential development design, 8 Saint Thomas Residence and hospitality development, Novotel and Mercure Singapore on Stevens; while DP Design entered the award programme with its urban art installation, Cradle2Cradle. All three designs received accolades in the New York Design Awards 2018.
A high-end condominium located at the heart of Orchard Road, 8 Saint Thomas Residence was awarded Gold in the Architecture – Residential – International Category. With aesthetics inspired by the art of Piet Mondrian – a pioneer of abstract art, the 153 metres tall 8 Saint Thomas presents a strong identity and appeals with its sense of art. Luxurious, modern, stylish and sustainable, the freehold condominium is the ideal modern urban living environment.
DPA’s second submission, Novotel & Mercure Singapore clinched Silver in the Architecture – Mixed Use – International Category. The 10-storey hospitality development, which accommodates two hotels and an array of fine dining, was envisioned as a garden oasis. Designed in response to the surrounding urban landscape, the final architectural outcome is a green respite at the city fringe that is a delight for hotel guests and the neighbouring residences alike.
DP Design’s Cradle2Cradle was inspired by ‘Newton’s Cradle’. The kinetic-light installation is an exploration of the relationship between art and science. Through public interaction, it demonstrates the conservation of momentum and energy using a series of swinging spheres that illuminate upon impact and energy transference. The resultant aesthetic is a mesmerising display of light and logic, blurring the boundaries between science and art. Cradle2Cradle won Silver in the Pop-Ups, Display, Exhibit & Set Design Category.
The New York Design Awards provide marketplace recognition across an extensive range of categories and celebrates “the creativity and courage of those who are leading the way.” The awards recognise the design process and product of planning, designing and constructing form, space and ambience that reflect functional, technical, social and aesthetic considerations.
