DP Design Director Mike Lim interviewed by Capital 95.8 FM for i Light Singapore 2023 Participation

Mike was invited to sit in with DJ QiQi of Singapore’s local Chinese radio station Capital 95.8 FM on the evening of Tuesday, 6^th June 2023 to delve more into DP Design’s latest urban installation, “Blumiwave”, for i Light Singapore 2023. Together with Wong Xin Rong, Place Manager from the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore, both interviewees shared insights about the various installations found at this year’s i Light programme. Mike expressed the inspiration behind Blumiwave’s creation, as well as the importance of leveraging public platforms and exhibitions such as i Light to lend voice to sustainability and climate positive change, this being the third year that DPD has participated in the i Light programme.

Blumiwave was conceptualised in response to this year’s festival theme, ‘A New Wave’, which seeks to explore the colour blue in the light spectrum, its associative thematic properties to intelligence and technology, and its relation to the ocean. Blumiwave is an interpretation of Blue Energy, a renewable energy powered by harnessing wave energy from oceans and rivers, through its undulating form that resembles crashing waves weaving in different directions and heights. Hand-woven and constructed with 100% recyclability in mind, the installation repurposes scaffolding and safety nettings from construction sites; reimagining their conventional association as ugly to aesthetic tactile materials and transforming their experience.
