HomeTeamNS Khatib Clubhouse, a recreational clubhouse for Singapore’s National Servicemen (NSmen), has received Honourable Mention at the recently concluded International Architectural Awards (IAA). This award follows the attainment of the Green Good Design Award by IAA, in June 2022. The dual recognition is testament to the excellence in design iteration of and delivery on themes of sustainability, community and connectivity in HomeTeamNS Khatib.
The pursuit of community-centric design is expressed through its façade of slender columns and deliberate dissolution of fortified perimeters and frontages. It is also embodied in its spatial programming and circulation pathways, with its main throughfare acting as a primary circulation centre that links to the neighbourhood and nearby park. Functioning as more than a utilitarian space, the throughfare also hosts the Heritage Gallery– a curated journey that storyboards the institution’s history and aspirations of its servicemen.
The International Architectural Awards is a long-running prestigious award programme that seeks to acknowledge the latest and best in cutting-edge design worldwide, and is jointly organised by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
