From 19 January to 28 February 2018, DP Architects Sdn Bhd will present a six-week exhibition, A Common Line | One Global Studio, showcasing 50 years of the firm’s architectural explorations. It was first launched at The URA Centre in August 2017, in Singapore. Converted into a travelling exhibition, DP Architects Sdn Bhd is bringing the exhibition to its first overseas venue at PAM Centre, Kuala Lumpur.
In 50 years since 1967, the firm has matured to become a leading international multi-disciplinary practice with offices in 16 cities including Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru, and projects in 77 countries across the globe. Its extensive portfolio of works includes key public spaces and civic projects like The Dubai Mall, Singapore Sports Hub, Resorts World Sentosa, Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay and the rejuvenation of Singapore’s premier shopping belt – Orchard Road.
Following the early success of its headquarters in Singapore, DP Architects Sdn Bhd started its operations in Malaysia in 1975 and was incorporated in 1994 as the firm’s first global office. Ampang Park (Kuala Lumpur) would be the firm’s first commissioned project and the first shopping mall to be built in Malaysia. Over the next four decades in Malaysia, DP Architects Sdn Bhd has enhanced the urban fabric of the main cities: Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Melaka and Penang. Among our completed projects in Malaysia are: Berjaya Times Square, Berjaya Central Park, and Singapore Embassy in Kuala Lumpur; Coronation Square in Johor Bahru; and Melaka Gateway Master Plan in Melaka; and Gurney Paragon and Design Village in Penang.
As the firm’s first destination and first overseas venture, it is thus, significant that Malaysia should be the first stop for our travelling exhibition. Having witness Malaysia’s economy grow from strength to strength over the years, DP Architects Sdn Bhd is indeed privileged to have been a part of that growth.
A Common Line | One Global Studio will curate DP’s portfolio of works within the academic context of the remarkable development of the built environment, both locally and overseas. The exhibition not only prompts visitors to query the function of architecture and urbanism, it hopes to inspire the next generation of designers and architects in Malaysia to contribute to the urbanscapes of the country.
This exhibition was part of the line-up of events to commemorate DP Architects’ 50th anniversary.
