DP Architects and DP Engineers join Construction Declares |

Construction Declares is a global petition uniting all strands of construction and the built environment. It is both a public declaration of our planet’s environmental crises and a commitment to take positive action in response to climate breakdown and biodiversity collapse. Singapore is the first Asian country to join Construction Declares with both architects and structure engineers as founding signatories.
Setting the tone for the new decade, DP Architects (DPA) and DP Engineers (DPE) joined the petition alongside 10 other founding signatories; pledging their commitment to take positive action in response to climate breakdown and biodiversity collapse.
“As architects and engineers, we have a responsibility to ensure a sustainable built environment. Thus, it is our duty to raise awareness in the industry and to advocate positive and practical measures that can mitigate the impact of the built environment on climate change,” says Angelene Chan, Chief Executive Officer of DP Architects.
As an advocate, DPA aims to inform and educate its clients and end-users to help them better understand the impact of their requirements and expectations on the climate; and to ultimately, encourage clients to opt for sustainable design measures and help reduce carbon emissions. In this respect, DPA’s design practices take into consideration the buildings’ life cycle and their regeneration.
No stranger to regenerative design, DPA has a strong track record in projects such as OUE Downtown Gallery, Mandarin Gallery, Wisma Atria, Paragon Shopping Centre and Singpost Centre. For OUE Downtown Gallery, the former DBS Building which comprised two office towers, was converted to a mixed-use development consisting of serviced apartments and office spaces. Ultimately, the adaptive re-use of the existing building instead of demolishing it reduced carbon emission and adds value to the urban fabric by improving connectivity and circulation in its context. Similarly, Wisma Atria, a shopping mall originally built in 1986, underwent additions and alterations in 2004 and 2012 instead of a full teardown, thereby reducing its carbon footprint.
In addition to Construction Declares, DP has also pledged to sustainability on the home front with the signing of the Singapore Climate Action Goals under the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources. The firm is also pushing to reduce carbon emissions through sustainability efforts in its office and projects.
