Held at Marina Bay Sands on 22 May, the second Joint BOA-ACES Conference 2018 was jointly organised by the Board of Architects (BOA) Singapore and the Association of Consulting Engineers (ACES) Singapore. Minister of Finance, Mr Heng Swee Keat, graced the occasion as the guest-of-honour.

Responding to the launch of Singapore’s Industry Transformation Maps and the challenges faced by the construction industry, this year’s conference theme was “Collaborative Alliance: Building a Sustainable Business”. It was a rallying call for greater collaboration and a new mind-set towards organising resources, scaling up and internationalising to engage the future global economy.

Ms Angelene Chan, CEO of DP Architects, was invited as guest speaker to deliver a keynote at the conference. Speaking during the segment “Building a Singapore Brand”, Ms Chan shared with the audience how DP Architects (DPA) built a sustainable and successful creative practice outside of Singapore. She also provided insight into the proactive steps DPA has taken to stay competitive in a rapidly changing industry landscape and technological advancements.

She said, “The process of promoting and operationalising creativity as a sustained force of growth is a means of unifying not only DP, but necessary to revitalise the Singapore design brand for the Future Economy.”

The other speakers were Chief Executive Officer of Building And Construction Authority, Mr Hugh Lim; Executive Chairman of Banyan Tree Holdings Limited, Mr Ho Kwon Ping; and Deputy CEO of Surbana Jurong Private Limited, Mr Yeo Choon Chong. They also addressed topics about building a Singapore brand, collaborating as a synergy and innovating for the future economy.

Architectural and engineering fraternities as well as other professionals, developers and builders in the construction industry were invited to explore and share their ideas and experiences on the built environment and sustainability matters.
