In its second year running, DP designFUTURE Conference brings together thought leaders and distinguished individuals to discourse the issues and challenges facing the future of design and the forces of change that will shape cities of the future.
This year, the conference features Dr Hossein Rezai, Founder-Director of Web Structures; Prof Pascale Fung, Director at the Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research (CAiRE); Prof Oscar Carracedo, Director at Designing Resilience in Asia International Research Programme; and Ms Angelene Chan, DP Architect’s Chief Executive Officer. Experts in their respective fields, they will deliver lectures on the pressing agendas for the environment and the design profession, ongoing efforts in Artificial Intelligence research, designing and planning for an uncertain future, and the evolving paradigms of the architectural practice.

Future of Design
Dr Hossein Rezai will address key issues facing contemporary design professionals, including our evolving relationship with the environment, the purpose and hierarchy of design, and the multiplicity of clients; as well as pressing political and social agendas for the built environment.
He is the founder-director of engineering consultancy, Web Structures and recipient of the President’s Designer of the Year award in 2016.
Robots with Heart – AI for the Betterment of Humanity
Prof Pascale Fung will discuss the immeasurable impact and dire consequences if AI is not developed to do good. She will describe the ongoing effort in AI research to ensure that it benefits humanity, as well as its potential impact on design and the creative arts.
She is an Artificial Intelligence expert and professor in the Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology.
Designing with the Unpredictable, Planning with Uncertainty
Prof Oscar Carracedo’s presentation will focus on Designing with the Unpredictable, Planning with Uncertainty. He will discuss the consequences of climate change and urbanisation, and the responses in planning, urban design and architecture.
He is the director of the Designing Resilience in Asia International Research Programme and assistant professor at the NUS Department of Architecture.
Architecture – An Evolving Craft
Angelene Chan will focus on the evolving paradigms of architectural practice and DP Architects’ investigation into new ways of pursuing architecture, and its exploration of new opportunities to build a sustainable and creative business edge.
She is the CEO of DP Architects and its group of companies, and recipient of the President’s Designer of the Year award in 2018.
