DPA Projects Shortlisted for ULI Asia Pacific Awards and Zak Awards

ALL NEWS

DP Architects is glad to announce that its projects, Bukit Canberra and Goodlife Makan, are among the 23 finalists in the 2024 Urban Land Institute Asia Pacific Awards for Excellence (ULI AP), and Lusail Commercial Boulevard is one of the six shortlisted nominees in its submitted category in the 2024 Zak Awards for Excellence in Façade Design & Engineering.

More than a standout feature that lends Bukit Canberra unique architectural identity, the modular, biomimetic hexagonal roofscape over the hawker centre encapsulates the project’s regenerative design principles and better-than-sustainable outcomes.

Bukit Canberra is an integrated community, sports and lifestyle development that spans nearly 12 hectares. Located in Sembawang on a forested and hilly terrain with rich historical value, the team was challenged to preserve much of this quality while honouring its pride of place, the conserved Canberra house, the former residence of British naval officers. Designed to be a living building that thrives with nature, its architectural scheme applies regenerative design principles and prioritises biodiversity.

Goodlife Makan was refreshed with the addition of a café, further encouraging multigenerational interaction and engaging seniors

Envisioning the typical void deck of a HDB/public housing block into a cheerfully designed active aging centre, Goodlife Makan looks to connect and reintegrate isolated elderlies in Singapore’s growing aged population back to the community. Its porous design, open communal kitchen at its nucleus and intentional application of vibrant colours facilitates organic and seamless interactions and movement, encouraging the elderly to meet and socialise in the course of preparing meals together.

A finalist in the Excellence in Façade Design – Architect category at the 2024 Zak Awards,  Lusail Commercial Boulevard has been nominated for its site- and context-sensitive design and design synergy across all four plots of retail, office, hospitality and residential. Guided by research on Doha’s geographic qualities and genius loci, the façade design draws inspiration from the proximity to the sea and expresses its maritime heritage through the iteration of the dhow, a traditional sailing vessel of the Arabian region. The façade also features a rhythmic flow of smooth lines with sensitive application of desert-colour scheme.

The results of the 2024 ULI Asia Pacific Awards for Excellence will be announced on 29th May at the ULI Asia Pacific Summit, held in Tokyo, Japan. Winners are automatically qualified for its Global Awards of Excellence, competing against winners from ULI Europe and Americas awards. Meanwhile, the design team for Lusail Commercial Boulevard will undergo a round of live judging at the Zak World of Façades conference in Dubai. Results will be announced at its gala dinner on 24th April.
