In the recent International Green Building Conference (IGBC) 2018, DPSD Senior Associate Director Mr Yong Siew Onn and DPA Senior Associate Lim Yin Chao were invited as speakers. Mr Yong gave a keynote about Lee Kong Chian (LKC) School of Medicine Novena and Yin Chao presented on the use of mass engineered timber (MET).

LKC School of medicine is an award-winning BCA Green Mark project. It was part of the curated site tours featured during the IGBC 2018. During his keynote on 4 September, Mr Yong explained the various sustainability measures such as energy efficient systems and building optimisation, implemented in the school’s design. These measures enabled the school to achieve the highest ‘Platinum’ BCA Green Mark rating.

Yin Chao shared insights on MET, specifically from its adoption in the Bukit Canberra (Sembawang Sports Complex) project. The presentation was part of the “Smart Low Carbon Construction: Mass Engineered Timber” track that happened from 5 – 7 September. He presented on the advantages of MET such as its sustainability, buildability and other benefits such as cost, fire performance and aesthetic value.

The IGBC is an annual conference organised by the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore in collaboration with the Singapore Green Building Council and Reed Exhibitions. Its theme “Build Green: Build Smart. Build Communities” fell in line with 2018 being the “Year of Climate Action” in Singapore.
