Merit Awards for Mondrian Singapore Duxton and One Punggol at 10th CREDAward

ALL NEWS

The recently concluded 10th CREDAward unveiled Mondrian Singapore Duxton and One Punggol as Merit Award winners in their respective categories. One of the most prestigious real estate awards in China, it invites international participation, celebrating leading designs that pave the way towards innovative and sustainable future urban development. With the award known for their strict assessment criteria and rigorous evaluation process, the achievements are testament to the design excellence exhibited in the two projects.

In the heart of the Tanjong Pagar Conservation Area is boutique hotel Mondrian Singapore Duxton. Drawing inspiration from the site’s colonial history, the design is expressed through a high-rise tower that juxtaposes against neighbouring low-rise traditional Peranakan shophouses. One of the hotel’s standout features is its contemporary façade, reflecting the blending of tradition and innovation through its minimalist lines and Art Deco accents. This weaving of tradition and modernity retains the historical legacy of the site, while serving as a visual illustration of Singapore’s architectural journey from its colonial days.

Atop the tower and podium lie lush greenery, carving out green spaces within the city by merging natural elements with the urban landscape. The greenery surrounds the grand drop-off point, located next to the through-block link. Beautifully illuminated at night, this pedestrian pathway encourages walkability to nearby popular destinations along Duxton Hill and Keong Saik Road. This enhanced connectivity revitalises surrounding areas, creating more vibrant spaces within the city centre.

One Punggol is an integrated community hub located in the heart of the Punggol neighbourhood. Adopting a participatory design approach, residents were involved in the early stages of the project, ensuring that the new community building would adequately serve their needs. Harnessing community-driven design gave form to the resident-centric One Punggol. A variety of facilities are co-located within a single building, including a community club, library, hawker centre, and public and healthcare services. This synergistic collaboration among multiple stakeholders echoes the hub’s theme of ‘diversity in unity’.

Central to One Punggol’s design is accessibility and inclusivity. Its porous and open ground floor welcomes visitors into the building, inviting people of all ages and walks of life to come together and engage in diverse activities within a shared space. By promoting greater social cohesion and interactions among people, a sense of community is cultivated. Besides functioning as a social connector, One Punggol is also a regional connector for pedestrian transit, integrated with existing transport infrastructure including the 500-metre linear park (Punggol Green) to serve the community.
