Punggol Green, by DPG, Recognised at Singapore Landscape Architecture Awards 2022

ALL NEWS

DP Green’s (DPG) Punggol Green project emerged as the Merit Award winner in the Parks and Recreational category at the recently concluded Singapore Landscape Architecture Awards (SLAA) 2022! The annual award programme aims to honour and showcase the best works of our landscape architects and promote landscape design innovation in various design disciplines. The judging process included two-stage online and onsite judging for the projects and individual interviews for the nominated special category awards.

The winning project, located beneath the Punggol LRT viaduct, creatively re-envisioned the conventionally un-utilised space into a lush and charismatic parkway; transforming dis-amenities into amenities and reclaiming places for the community. Guided by the SG Green Plan, the 500m linear park is designed as a social spine that fosters a sense of community through recreation and play. It also stitches the existing development with the newly completed One Punggol and integrates with the walking and cycling networks; thereby, effectively becoming an alternative channel of transportation that supports the health and wellbeing of its surrounding community. Featuring a mix of native and exotic species well-suited to low-light conditions, Punggol Green is also designed to increase biodiversity attraction and mimic the ecological habitats of the proximal coastline.

All in all, DPG’s well-thought landscape architecture strategies successfully harmonises the natural with the urban to provide a novel exploration of how spaces can be re-interpreted and remade with ingenuity.
