The 29 July issue of The Straits Times covered chalets and resorts sprucing themselves up to compete with hotels for a share in the local staycation scene and reach out to local and international visitors through numerous facilities and entertainment options.

Two DP Architects projects were showcased for their unique offerings, Civil Service Club @ Changi and D’Resort in Downtown East.

Civil Service Club @ Changi was described to be among the poshest chalets in town, after a series of extensive redevelopment and refurbishment works. It overlooks Changi Creek, giving visitors a seaside resort experience that they do not have to travel overseas for. It features suites, as well as two-storey villas that resemble stylish private houses built by designer architects, with clean, minimalist designs and lots of windows for natural light. An outdoor darkwood patio serves as the barbecue hang-out area. Housekeeping services, fresh linen and toiletries are also provided. The chalet also offers a range of facilities, which includes an infinity pool, a 20-lane bowling centre and a bike gym.

According to the report, families will be spoilt for choice at D’Resort in Downtown East. Offering guests park, mangrove or beach views, the resort offers close to 400 rooms comprising family chalets and suites. It also has nine different room types; airy rooms feature artworks, and the walls in the family rooms depict cheerful scenes from the jungle, ocean and of M&M’s cartoon characters and the family rooms also come with bunk beds, which are a hit with children. Other frills and perks include in-room towel art and balloons and chocolates for children, which are handed out at check-in. The resort also has a host of complimentary activities for children such as temporary hand or face tattoos and balloon sculpting. Outdoor activities include art jamming, cycling around the nearby Pasir Ris Park and guided mangrove walks.
