The revitalized Downtown East updates existing amenities and adds new areas to create a comprehensive and harmonious development, providing varied community engagement opportunities. Together with the enhancement to the infrastructure, a new clarity of the circulation networks and improved amenities, Downtown East’s identity as the Singapore’s leisure destination of choice is further enhanced.
Strong linear design elements adorn the development: from the tall slender columns at the arrival plaza, the handrails, façade to the canopy articulation – the scale and proportion of the different elements come together seamlessly, showing the level of attention paid to the smallest details. The array of galvanised vertical steel posts that serve as the railing are not only functional but also create a multitude of shadows across the floor and walls that add richness to the visual texture.
The rich diversity within the compact size of the site can be seen in the multitudes of programming situated in intimate distance of each other, with subtle yet firm delineations between each that allow for a smooth spatial transition from one attraction to the next. The main block of the resort, the chalet blocks, the Festive Walk shopping mall and Wild Wild Wet (Singapore’s biggest water theme park) are all proximate and contiguous with each other within the site. This delicate sensitivity to programming is demonstrative of DP Architect’s diligence in producing user-centric projects that are space efficient and sustainability-focused.
