Lusail City is a self-contained and comprehensively planned city signifying Qatar’s progress on a grand scale spanning 38 sq.km, containing 19 districts for a population of 200,000 residents.
In search of the genius loci of the place, the 4 “mother-print” of Qatar core identity, history, geography, culture & aspiration are found to offer strong notion of iconography, urban collage and pattern identification essential to place-making. The national history, its strong maritime heritage and architectural heritage are seen to carry strong DNA in historical point of view.
The vertical emphasis in traditional fort tower, the free form traditional dhow and the orderly courtyard style of living are the 3 design catalysts derived from the history aspect. Rhythmic flow of smooth lines is cues gathered from the geography of Doha and its proximity with immediate sea, land and air. The sand suggests the porosity character, the starry Arabian nights are twinkled with pixilation of the stars against vast darkness and the undulation is the theme synonym to the wilderness of the sea and dunes.
The formal approach to traditional architecture, the intricate patterns and modular forms are the few key cues that provoke the design of the scheme. All these templates identified will form an oasis of ideas and inspiration for Lusail City, dubbed as the City of Tomorrow. All that Lusail aspires to be, contemporary, modern and yet rooted.
