Novotel & Mercure Singapore on Stevens was crafted in response to the surrounding urban landscape and in line with URA’s vision to add value to the urban fabric along Stevens Road. Comprising hotel functions alongside dining, commercial spaces and clubhouse facilities on its ground floor, the design and planning sought to create a green respite at the fringe of the city that generates positive externalities for both hotel guests and neighbouring residences.
The extensive landscaping and shade trees planted on site not only provides ambience but also reduces the urban heat island effect for a cooler atmosphere. Demonstrating that sustainability and elevating the human experience are key design tenets, Novotel & Mercure Singapore on Stevens is designed in the shape of the Chinese character, 人, meaning people. The 人 form carves the triangular site into three distinctive public spaces; a grand arrival space to the south, an infinity pool with a view of the lawn to the east and a functional sports zone to the west. This form also allows each wing of guestrooms an optimal distance from the other programmes and an efficient circulation core at its fulcrum.
Novotel & Mercure Singapore on Stevens embodies DP’s ability to convene multiple thematic elements into a cohesive design narrative that prioritises user experience and sustainability.
