Envisaged as ‘hotels within a hotel’ tailored for a diverse group of discerning tourists, One Farrer Hotel & Spa is a five-star urban resort situated in Singapore’s heritage district, next to Farrer Park MRT station. Comprising three hotels – namely Urban Hotel, Loft Apartments, and Skyline Hotel & Sky Villas – within one compound and under a single hospitality umbrella, the design brief came with its own set of challenges. It required that each “hotel” is distinct from the other and sensitively conceived to meet the varied needs of each tourist group. It must also retain a cohesive style synonymous with its brand identity.
To achieve this, we took a two-prong approach. The first, a big picture view of the project objectives and branding, was crucial to the conceptualisation of its public spaces. This is best exemplified in its hotel reception lobby. A neutral palette imbues the space with a poignant sense of timeless class that is befitting of its five-star status. Then, to embody its progressive hospitality model, design features such as wall columns in beautifully veined stone and backlit wall panels were woven into its aesthetic scheme; effectively permeating the hotel with a fresh and contemporary vibe.
Discerning spaces, meeting needs
With the hotel compound forming part of the 20-storey integrated commercial and healthcare complex, it naturally receives a wide variety of tourists. This ranges from your average globe-trotting tourist to business travellers and medical tourists. Thus, when designing for 243 rooms, suites and villas across the three “hotels”, it was pivotal that Urban Hotel, Loft Apartments, and Skyline Hotel & Sky Villas would boast bespoke interiors that appeal to the diverse tourist groups and their needs.
The appeal of One Farrer Hotel & Spa does not end here. Whether you are a business traveller desiring to host a conference or a medical tourist seeking rest and restoration, all the facilities you require can be found within the hotel premise. The Conference Centre, comprising a grand ballroom and three meeting rooms, is equipped with the latest sophisticated technology such as video-conferencing capabilities linked to the Institute of Nutrition. A choice selection of relaxing services in the spa and fitness facilities completes the progressive and cutting-edge concept behind One Farrer Hotel and Spa.
