Plantation Village is located within the larger Plantation District, which sits at the southern tip of the greater Tengah Town Masterplan. The design aligns itself with HDB’s aspiration to transform Tengah into Singapore’s first smart and sustainable town while retaining the core priority of facilitating social bonding within the housing precinct.
This is articulated via the courtyard design concept. Plantation Village will feature wide open spaces such as the Precinct Heart; the Common Green with its expansive network of tree-lined, universally-accessible pedestrian pathways; and elevated quadrangles with landscaped deck and provisions of benches, trellises and facilities for social activities. These spaces, strategically programmed, function as effective breakout spaces that invite residents outdoors, create opportunities for cross-interaction and facilitate communal bonding.
On the eco-conscious front, the building design integrates building systems that will contribute to the national effort to mitigate climate change via better energy and resource management. These include solar-ready roofs to harness this renewable energy; the Centralised Cooling System, a water-cooled system that is more energy-efficient than its air-cooled counterpart; and the Urban Water Harvesting System for irrigation and cleaning of common areas.
